The Long Tail Theory is a theory that can be used to describe the way in which new technologies have enabled audiences to have choice over the amount of media they can access. Not just mass/popular media. An example of a niche product would be a music artist such as GHOST, that follows a genre that does not follow mainstream standards, which may make it difficult for their songs to gain popularity and appear in stores as products.

Moral Panic is a theory that can be used to describe the way in which the mass media create folk devils out of products or groups of people.

An example of this would be Resident Evil 5, where there was a lot of discourse around whether the game was intentionally racist or not because of the enemies being the civilians of West Africa.
