 1) A) - You can communicate with people across the world

- You can produce, distribute and consume media products on a global scale

b) Marshall McLuhan's global village theory can be contradicted through the existence of cyberbullying. in his boom the 'understanding media: The Extensions of Man' (1964) suggested that one day we would live in a 'global village' where owing to advancements in technology we would be more interconnected with each other. Although this may be true, the effects could be negative therefore going against his theory.

2) - YouTube: YouTube has allowed content creators such as Vanoss Gaming to create and upload videos, for example, "Gmod Prop hunt - Scream edition". Youtube contains features that allow creators to upload videos to their platform which then also gives viewers the ability to leave comments on said videos.

- Instagram: Instagram provides features for users to post images and videos with filters, captions, hashtags and locations. For example, Cristiano Ronaldo uses instagram as a platform for his 497 million follows to see. Instagram provides features such as being able to tag other accounts in posts and use trending hashtags to boost posts on the algorithm.


3) a) businesses can make posts using hashtags and social media tools to find relevant personnel as anyone from anywhere around the world will be able to access those posts, thus increasing their reach. Hashtags can be used to help the algorithm for users to find posts that are relevant to them.

 4 (a) Explain the difference between a conglomerate and an independent company. Use examples to support your answer. (4 marks) A conglomerate is a company or organisation that is made up of other businesses called subsidiaries. For example, Disney, as Disney owns companies such as Marvel and Pixar. An independent company however, does not have the benefits of being conglomerate and cannot use vertical integration due to it not having any subsidiaries. Independent companies will have to rely on joint ventures, meaning that the company will work with another company with mutual benefits.
